Great Weston Ride from Bristol to Weston-super-Mare

About

The highly-acclaimed Great Weston Ride cycling challenge from Bristol to Weston-super-Mare will be back again in 2020 after its 10th anniversary outing this year was rated another major success by the people who matter most - the riders themselves.

This relaxed and welcoming West Country event once again received lavish praise and excellent reviews from its participants, and it has earned a well-deserved reputation as an ultra-friendly challenge ride that encourages and attracts all manner of people from cycling beginners right through to seasoned riders.

95% of this year's participants rated the event as 'Awesome' and gave it a full five-star rating, with many going on to describe it as their favourite cycling event - and one rider who travelled up from Devon even went so far as to say it was "The best day I've ever had on a bike".

The spectacular city-to-coast route starts in Bristol and then takes riders through some stunning countryside and picturesque Somerset villages as it weaves its way through the Mendips and across the Somerset Levels before finishing on the seafront in Weston-super-Mare, and the next edition is taking place on Sunday 19th July 2020.

It's certainly a little bit different compared with most cycling events and from the rider feedback comments it's abundantly clear that the emphasis with the Great Weston Ride is very much on the pure pleasure and enjoyment of riding a bike whilst rising to a personal challenge as part of a great day out.

Event Organiser Darren McKimm comments: "One of our main aims is to provide a friendly, inclusive, and memorable event and the riders' comments, together with the huge smiles that we see on their faces throughout the day - and especially at the finish! - tell us that we're meeting that objective.  And that's exactly what we'll be looking to do again in 2020".

With no fewer than EIGHT route and distance options on the day there is definitely something on offer for pretty much everyone, regardless of previous cycling experience, and another significant element of the GWR is its optional fundraising dimension - to date participants have helped to raise over £235,000 for Prostate Cancer UK, the event's official charity partner, and around £355,000 in total for a wide range of charities and good causes.

So there are clearly lots of very good reasons to take on the Great Weston Ride challenge, and it promises to be a great day out for all who enter.
