Overview
Great West Way is working in partnership with VisitEngland, tourism organisations, Official Tour Operators and industry partners to deliver a new travel trade training programme for businesses and destinations along or within easy reach of the route.
The virtual training programme will consist of 8 x 1–2-hour sessions. Each session can be attended individually or a series of sessions booked for relevant staff.
Aligning with DMOs along the route, it aims to assist tourism businesses/destinations, become Travel Trade ready, enabling them to develop and implement future trade strategies to help boost tourism for 2022 and beyond.

Who is it for?
These sessions are aimed at businesses/destinations who are new to working with the travel trade as well as for those who are more experienced but want to develop a clearer understanding so they can obtain additional travel trade business.
They are suitable for marketing, sales, business development or travel trade representatives from businesses along the Great West Way, who are responsible for developing their product offer and wishing to gain experience for working with the domestic and/or international travel trade.
What will it cost and how can I book?
The Travel Trade Training Programme is free of charge for all Great West Way Ambassador businesses and destinations to attend. Non-Ambassadors will be charged £25 + VAT per person per session (excluding Taking England to the World sessions).

Programme Schedule & Content
Facilitated by B2me, Tourism South East and Great West Way. You will receive a basic foundation and understanding of the travel trade with a domestic focus. It includes details on the Travel Trade landscape, group demographics and building relationships, sound bites from GTOs, Tour Operators and Coach Operators, positioning and first steps into market, developing a Travel Trade strategy/activity plan and working with your regional DMO.
This is essential for anyone new to working with the travel trade.

Facilitated by UKinbound CEO, Joss Croft. Includes top tips for working with the travel trade from our supplier panel of experts - Windsor Castle, Holiday Inn Salisbury Stonehenge, English Heritage and Bombay Sapphire Distillery. Additionally, Joss will present a UKinbound update including COVID impacts for the inbound industry, Group friendly charter and post COVID initiatives. Facilitated by VisitEngland. It will include the new domestic tourism module with insights from the latest consumer sentiment, current behaviours and new segments. It will also include Inbound tourism module and how VisitEngland / VisitBritain plan to drive tourism recovery in line with the Governments Tourism Recovery Plan. This session is free of charge for all attendees and maximum numbers apply.

Facilitated by VisitEngland with the final part of Taking England to the World. It will include building relationships, trade engagement, creating engaging content and marketing, communication, working with social media, influencers and image, video and asset rights. In addition, you’ll hear from Rob Yandell, Yandell Media’s Group Leisure & Travel Magazine about maximising opportunities for working with the domestic travel trade media and opportunities for working with your regional DMO. This session is free of charge for all attendees and maximum numbers apply.

Facilitated by the Great West Way team. It will include the importance of developing sustainable tourism product for the travel trade. Official Tour Operator partner, Vera Lett from Tour Partner Group will present on how TPG are working to support sustainable travel trade programmes. ‘Off the route’ Ambassador Blenheim Palace will present on how they are working towards shaping a greener future and selling sustainable tourism to the travel trade.
