About

Once the heart of King Alfred’s lands, the Vale of Pewsey contains rich history including the site of the Wolfhall, where Jane Seymour met King Henry VIII, the only working windmill in Wessex at Wilton and the original - and still operational - steam powered beam engines at Crofton Pumping Station on the Kennet & Avon Canal.  Home to White Horse carvings in the chalk hillsides and seasonal crop circles.

Visit Pewsey during September and enjoy Wiltshire’s oldest carnival.Once the heart of King Alfred’s lands, the Vale of Pewsey contains rich history including the site of the Wolfhall, where Jane Seymour met King Henry VIII, the only working windmill in Wessex at Wilton and the original - and still operational - steam powered beam engines at Crofton Pumping Station on the Kennet & Avon Canal.  Home to White Horse carvings in the chalk hillsides and seasonal crop circles.  Visit Pewsey during September and enjoy Wiltshire’s oldest carnival.
