About

This spring, something truly prehistoric is coming to life beneath the Mendip Hills.

Prepare for an unforgettable adventure as Cheddar Gorge & Caves unveils Ancient Animal Odyssey – a magical illuminated trail deep within the awe-inspiring chambers of Gough’s Cave. Wander through the shadows and marvel at glowing lanterns of ancient beasts and dinosaurs, brought to life in dazzling colour with background light, music and sounds bringing the scenes to life.

It's a breathtaking underground spectacle for all ages – from curious kids to lifelong explorers!

Meet the magnificent creatures that once ruled the Earth millions of years ago and learn lots of fun facts – even be surprised to learn which ones still walk among us today! It’s a journey through time, perfect for family days out and nostalgic trips for the young-at-heart.

Extra May Half Term Fun:

24th May-1st June: Young explorers can join our fun May half term trail. Their mission is to find each of the illuminated prehistoric creatures as they journey around the cave taking in fun facts about the animals along the way. Everyone who completes the task receives an Ancient Animal Odyssey-themed reward badge which they can choose to colour in themselves or even design their own!
