The Spring Study Series
An Age of Expansion

Christopher Rogers: Arcadian England: An Age of Opulence
The Seven Years War and the consequent emergence of the first British Empire had an immense impact  on ‘taste’. Furthermore the burgeoning agricultural and industrial revolutions provided the architect with new patrons and great disposable wealth. Add to that the popularity of the Grand Tour, now that transport was becoming easier, and you have all the ingredients for lavish new buildings and landscaping.
