The Spring Study Series 2022 at the Merchant's House
An Age of Expansion
David Du Croz: Great Britain: Foundations of Greatness
The second half of the eighteenth century saw significant developments for Britain both at home and abroad which could be said to have laid the foundations of British greatness in the one hundred years that followed. Despite losing the American colonies British commercial influence and territorial power expanded significantly, fueling economic growth at home. With that increasing prosperity came relative constitutional stability, social mobility, and an intellectual flowering reflected in the writings of some of the greatest political theorists, philosophers and economists of the age.
