About

Explore a gem of Britain’s industrial heritage in beautiful, rural Hampshire. Whitchurch Silk Mill is a Georgian water mill that still weaves silk fabrics using Victorian machinery. It is the oldest silk mill still weaving silk in its original building. Discover how the Mill wove for Thomas Burberry, and made fabrics for shirting and Ede and Ravenscroft’s legal gowns.

Whether you are machine-mad, an admirer of silk fabrics, a child learning about the Victorians, or just looking for a delightful day out in Hampshire, Whitchurch Silk Mill has something for you including the original mill wheel and Victorian machinery, fabulous fabrics on the looms, plus peaceful setting by the River Test, with a riverside café for light lunches and a selection of delicious cakes and treats. When it is warmer you can enjoy the garden and eat by the river. Families, cyclists and walkers are all welcome.

The Mill shop has a huge variety of unique gifts and souvenirs. With books, children’s toys, local produce and beautiful silk products, there is something for everyone. Take a piece of our living weaving heritage home with you by picking up a Whitchurch Silk scarf or souvenir woven on our historic looms. Both our café and shop can be used without admission payment.

If you are visiting as part of a group, Whitchurch Silk Mill offers a guided tour along with a range of refreshments available to book in advance. Special events and exhibitions throughout the year, showcasing the Mill’s textile heritage, local connections and natural surroundings, as well as arts and crafts. There is always something new to see, check the what’s on calendar on our website.

There are family friendly displays, event and activities, with quizzes, explorer back packs and trails there is something for every member of your family.
