At the heart of RCT lies the award-winning Rhondda Heritage Park Museum, home to A Welsh Coal Mining Experience. This immersive museum invites visitors to step back in time and explore the life of miners who once worked at the Lewis Merthyr Colliery. Guided by former miners, the Black Gold Underground Tour takes you through original engine houses, lamp rooms, and a simulated coal dram ride to the surface. Interactive exhibits, historical artefacts, and reconstructed scenes bring the coal-powered past vividly to life. Learn how our miners, colliery owners and communities lived while Rhondda coal powered the world, including the Titanic!

Rhondda Cynon Taf is easily accessible via the M4 motorway. From Cardiff, take the A470 northbound towards Pontypridd and Merthyr Tydfil. For the Rhondda Valleys, follow signs for the A4058. Cynon Valley is reached via the A4059, and Taff Ely via the A473. Ample parking is available at key attractions and town centres.

By Road:
From the M4 motorway, take Junction 32 and follow the A470 northbound towards Pontypridd/Merthyr Tydfil. Exit at Pontypridd, then follow signs for Trehafod via the A4058. Continue on the A4058 until you reach Coedcae Road in Trehafod. The Heritage Park is clearly signposted and located just off the main road.
Parking: Ample free on-site parking is available for both cars and coaches. Disabled parking and full disabled access are also provided.
Our nearest train station is Trehafod. We’re just a few minutes walk from the platform.
