But whether you're an experienced printmaker or a technically-driven novice, this intensive workshop will equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to create complex, multi-layered linocut prints, guiding you through each step from design inception to the finished edition.
What will I learn?
- Gain an understanding of the history, techniques, and materials
- How to create and plan your artwork, taking into consideration multiple layers and colours
- Understand the importance of thinking ahead and crafting a well-executed design
- Explore various carving tools and learn to control lines, shapes, and textures
- Ink mixing for creating rich and vibrant prints
- Experimenting with various ink applications and papers to achieve desired effects
- How to print multiple colours from a single block (reduction)
- How to print multiple colours from multiple blocks (multi-block)
- Proper registration and alignment techniques, resulting in clean and professional prints
- Make and use a registration template - use with ternes burton pins
- Print using a relief press and burnish by hand
- How to number and sign your work when editioning prints
- Prioritise safety in the studio by learning how to handle tools, inks, solvents and operate presses.
