Dublin-born, Berlin-based gothic folk singer-songwriter & multi-instrumentalist A.S. Fanning’s songs are often lyrically driven, taking inspiration from Irish literary tradition and folk music as well as from ’60s psychedelia and rock ‘n’ roll.
He began this solo project in 2013 after the breakup of his former band, The Last Tycoons. Self-produced debut album “Second Life” was released in 2017 on Proper Octopus Records, the same year Fanning performed at Austin’s prestigious SXSW festival.
Sophomore album “You Should Go Mad” was released in November 2020, receiving support and high praise from BBC 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq, The Sunday Times (“rich and expressive”) and Clash magazine (“the sound of an artist pushing himself to the brink”).
Forthcoming third album “Mushroom Cloud” is out on May 26th 2023, released on K&F Records / Proper Octopus.
The album features contributions from Bernardo Sousa on electric guitar, Felix Buchner on bass, Dave Adams on synth & piano, Jeff Collier on drums, Martin Lorenz on timpani & percussion and the Oriel Quartett performing the string parts, which were arranged Irene Buckley. The title track was released on March 22nd as its first single, described by Backseat Mafia as “a theatrical tour de force”
