Bristol Chamber Choir. Celebrating William Byrd 400 and Bristol 650 at Christ Church

Christ Church, Broad Street, Bristol, BS1 2EJ
Bristol Chamber Choir

About

Bristol Chamber Choir was founded in 1837 (as Bristol Madrigal Society). It is the oldest choir in Bristol and one of the oldest in the country. One of the founding members was the composer Robert Pearsall who was born in Clifton in 1795. We still regularly perform his music.

This Spring concert will be marking two significant anniversary, firstly, of course, Bristol 650 and secondly the 400th anniversary of the death of William Byrd , who was, perhaps, the greatest English composer of the Tudor period.

The programme will include Byrd's 'Mass for Four Voices' and his motets 'Sing joyfully' and 'Ave verum corpus'. The choir will also be singing music by his contemporary Thomas Tallis.

Finally we will be singing some pieces by Bristol-based composers.
