Over the next two years, Clifton Suspension Bridge Trust is working with engineering specialists Taziker on a landmark project to protect the bridge's 180-year-old suspension chains. Join us this Heritage Open Day weekend to meet the intrepid team undertaking the age-old process of ‘walking the chains’ to hand paint the bridge’s 4,200 individual links.*
Drop into the Clifton Hub (BS8 4DU) to see an exhibition of tools and photographs of the work so far; meet our team of 'Explainers' on the bridge and ask them about maintenance past and present; or book onto a 'Meet the Engineer' talk and find out how the team stay safe working on the chains 100 metres above the high tide mark.
Pre-booking is required for 'Meet the Engineer' talks, taking place on both days at 1100, 1200, 1400 and 1500.
*There will be No ACCESS to the work site or bridge chains during this experience due to health and safety constraints.
