For Summer 2025 Dana Awartani will be exhibiting in her first European solo exhibition at Arnolfini, following the inclusion of her poignant and much celebrated installation Come, let me heal your wounds. Let me mend your broken bones commissioned for the Venice Biennale in 2024.
Born in Saudi Arabia and of Palestinian descent, Awartani’s work is steeped in historical and visual references from Islamic and Arab art-making traditions. At its heart the work engages with the very human act of making, honouring traditional craft making techniques from darning to stonemasonry, encouraging audiences to consider passages of time. Including painting, sculpture, performance and installation, her work uses locally sourced materials and is often produced by working collaboratively with local craftspeople and artisans.
Lending a ‘rare sensitivity to urgent political concerns of gender, collective healing, cultural destruction and sustainability’, Awartani’s exhibition at Arnolfini encompasses the breadth of her significant multidisciplinary practice, allowing audiences to explore a larger body of the artist’s work.
