Step into the museum after dark as its grand interior is transformed by huge projections of distant nebulae, star clusters, and galaxies, combining the beauty of the historic building with the immense scale of the cosmos.
This new show explores one deceptively simple question: How far into space can we see from Bristol?
Every astronomical image is real, captured from central Bristol by Lee Pullen, the Urban Astrophotographer. Beginning close to home and travelling ever deeper into the universe, the images are brought to life at enormous scale with gentle motion. Before the main show begins, Lee introduces the story behind the astrophotos, exploring how faint light from deep space can be captured beneath the glow of a city.
For 2027, Immersed in Starlight features a completely new theme and narration, many new images alongside favourites from the original production, and an immersive soundtrack composed afresh by Sam Whitfield from Cyan Music. Sound, imagery, and storytelling carry the audience across the cosmic ocean, through astronomical distance and time.
Choose between two sessions, 6:30pm and 8:00pm. Please be aware this is a suggested arrival time, giving you enough time to grab a drink from the on-site bar, find your seat, and get comfortable.
Doors open at 6:15pm.
The show is approximately 45 minutes long, during which the building will be kept in low light.
Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
