Saxophonist and composer Wayne Shorter was one of the most revered figures in jazz, a truly original and distinctive voice both in his playing and writing. He passed away at the beginning of March at the age of 89.
The 1960s saw Shorter composing for Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, classic Blue Note albums under his own name such as Speak No Evil, Adam's Apple, Ju Ju and Night Dreamer, and also for the Miles Davis Quintet on albums such as Miles Smiles and ESP. To pay tribute to this period of his career we have the fabulous Sound of BlueNote, who have visited us quite a few times in the past and always produce a memorable gig.
