CAGE Variation No 1
In this presented concert of rich and colourful music from across the 20th and into the 21st century, Professor Jonathan Cross and the London Sinfonietta explore how the work of European composers has been transformed by drawing on the sounds and ideas of Asia, and how composers from Asia have in turn entered into dialogue with Western musical traditions.
The programme culminates in a performance of Variation No 1 by the experimental American composer John Cage that was inspired by Chinese philosophy, which will include young musicians from the West of England Youth Orchestra.
