Prepare for the next talk in the BRLSI 200 series, delving into the remarkable events of 1824. Kicking off with the founding of the RNLI amidst a staggering 1,800 shipwrecks annually along Britain's treacherous coasts. Formed without government assistance, the RNLI relied on the courage of dedicated volunteers, willing to brave the seas to save lives – a tradition that endures to this day. Over the past two centuries, they've rescued over 144,000 individuals.
Join in for an inspiring discussion celebrating these unsung heroes!
Dave Nicoll, boasting over 43 years of service as an RNLI volunteer and currently serving as a Coxswain of the Falmouth Lifeboat, will lead the charge. His captivating presentation will weave together historical photographs and film footage with gripping accounts, showcasing the evolution of the RNLI over the past two centuries. Notably, Nicoll will highlight the indispensable role that women have played throughout the organization's storied history.
