About

Exploring lesser-known British works with premiere baroque ensemble

Kinga Ujszászi leader
Ciara Hendrick mezzo-soprano

Programme to include:

HANDEL Concerto Grosso in D Major Op 6 No 5
PEPUSCH 'The Spring' and 'Chloe' from 6 English Cantatas
CORBETT Extracts from 'Le Bizzarie Universali'
SHUTTLEWORTH Concerti I & XI
GEMINIANI Variations on 'La Folia'

In the first two decades of the 1700s Italian style was allconquering and London audiences were thrilled at the unprecedented virtuosity on display. Pioneering baroque ensemble Spiritato! present a dazzling collection of cantatas and concerti grossi by Handel and his contemporaries.

With music by Shuttleworth, Pepusch and Corbett which has been largely unheard for 300 years, the ensemble invites you to discover great works that suggest Handel did not quite have the musical monopoly that history has since recorded.
