Celebrate Black History Month through the colour, creativity and rich textile traditions of the Yoruba people of Nigeria.
Join artist Tomi for a fun, hands-on family workshop exploring Adire (tie-dye). This is the traditional Yoruba art of creating beautiful patterned, indigo-dyed cloth. Discover how fabric, pattern and adornment can carry stories of culture, creativity, identity and heritage across generations.
Using pieces of Adire fabrics, families will transform textiles into their own wearable creations and accessories. Choose to make fabric bracelets, earrings, brooches, hair accessories, keyrings, bag charms or book covers to take home and enjoy.
Celebrate the skill and creativity behind Yoruba textile traditions and their continuing place within contemporary Black art, fashion and identity.
No previous craft experience is needed, just come along, get creative and make something that celebrates heritage while expressing your own style.
Free admission, donations welcome.
Drop-in, no booking required.
Suitable for: families and children aged 6+.
All children must be accompanied by a parent or carer. Younger children will need support.
