About

Each month we will be bringing top names in Jazz to the Civic to perform at our 'venue within a venue', the Café. Instrumentalists and singers renowned for their talent, will hosts live music nights featuring the best sounds in modern jazz along with some funk and soul flavours thrown in.

Featuring in July: Jacqui Hicks

Jacqui – came through Leeds College of Music, via NYJO and in 1992, she joined funk band Shakatak and has since toured the world with them.

Her debut solo album Spellbound received excellent reviews and her current CD proves Jacqui's talent as a gifted singer and arranger of both standards and jazz music. With influences including: Nat Cole, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Donny Hathaway and Dianne Reeves, Jacqui is just as comfortable in funk as she is straight ahead swing and will be treating us to a mix of Jazz with some soulful classics tunes thrown in.

"A singer of warmth, poise and intelligence, whose smokey voice is a pleasure to listen to" – Yorkshire Post.
