'The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results' - Albert Einstein.
From the works of James Fritz, 'Start Swimming' explores what power young people have to affect change and resist authority.
Set in a dystopian authoritarian society, when two people decide to step out and start bending the rules, they are faced with all sorts of issues. Learning how to navigate in a society focussed on rule-following and crushing all sense of individuality, the rebels begin to peel away the cracks and find that there are many other people like them, just waiting to escape.
A modern physical piece of theatre that focuses on themes of occupation, revolution, and what the future may hold for today's youth. Not centred around one specific story or voice, the play provides the audience with a gateway into exploring a collaboration of feelings of frustration, confusion, anger and powerlessness. 'Start Swimming' is a play that will keep the audience on its toes, creating a tense atmosphere and leaving you with a little glimmer of hope that the rebels will succeed.
'When one step away from disaster, there's only one thing left to do: start swimming.'
