Hillbrush has been manufacturing brushware and cleaning equipment in Mere, Wiltshire, since 1922 and have been awarded a Royal Warrant for our products. In April 2017 we moved to a new purpose-built manufacturing site, still in Mere, alongside which lies our visitor centre, Visit Hillbrush. Our unique centre incorporates 3 core services - somewhere you can EAT, a boutique SHOP and a brush making museum to DISCOVER! We are the perfect venue for families looking for something a little different or travellers looking for a unique, welcome stop with quality cuisine. We offer electric car charging, ample parking, loyalty cards and gift vouchers.
The Visit Hillbrush restaurant is one of quality, delight and comfort and is run by a dedicated team of professionals. Our kitchen is led by James, our Head Chef, who has previously cooked for Jamie Oliver and Paloma Faith to name a few. We pride ourselves in sourcing the finest local ingredients and cook from fresh every day, providing unrivalled quality cuisine along the A303.
From a light bite at brunch to one of our themed Friday evening dinners, expertly prepared coffees by our barista’s, milkshakes to order and an abundance of cakes and tray bakes to eat in or takeaway, there is something for everyone.
Our delightful boutique shop sells a range of inspiring gifts. We stock ‘not on the high street’ items sourced from local companies, as well as products from other Royal Warrant holders such as Dartington Crystal, Dents and Kent brushes. Also available are our own high-quality cleaning products, manufactured on site. Our seasonal products are always popular gifts, from gloves, scarves and umbrella’s in the rainy winter months, to a range of gardening tools, sun hats and lotions for the summer.
Our interactive brush making museum has a range of interesting artefacts and historical memorabilia documented from the 1920’s to present day. We have a chronological timeline of the history of Hillbrush, documenting the transition through the 4 generations of family members who have run the business. It educates visitors on everything from injection moulding methods to the craft of fibre dressing for our traditional range, our Royal connections and the history of brush making itself. We also have vintage machinery, video footage of our on-site manufacturing, explanations into colour coding in your kitchen and information on the Royal Warrant and how we were awarded ours. There are two 60” interactive screens which children and adults alike can discover more, play games and answer quizzes.

The Visit Hillbrush museum is a celebration of the rich 95-year history of the Coward family brushware and hygenic cleaning tools buiness, situated in the beautiful old market town of Mere.
With the company's beginnings dating back to 1922, and now run by third and fourth generation Cowards, Visit Hillbrush offers a stimulating, educational and interactive museum for adults and children alike. It is also the only brush museum in the UK, and one of a very few in the world!
The museum charts the history of Hillbrush throughout the years. From its humble beginnings in a small factory on Castle Hill housing a sawmill, to earning the Royal Warrant, and most recently, the company's recent £9 million relocation to Norwood Park where they make 10,000 brushes a day and house a Visitor Centre with popular restaurant and shop.
Exhibits include: How many brushes in your home? Fibres from around the world - from horsehair from Paraguay to cane sourced from China - historic videos, restored antique brush machines and imagery of Royal visits.
